Tanzania is a country with lots of children and young people, with a population of about 35 million people belonging to 120 ethnic groups each speaking its own local language. The offical language is Kiswahili, spoken and understood by more than 95% Tanzanians. People are very social and friendly to each other and to travelers.

Life in Tanzania
People live very close together with their families. Families are quite huge and since there is no governmental social security at all, people highly depend on each other. A tribe is like a group of families, they speak the same language, share the same traditions and customs and help each other when needed.

Economic Activities
Most people work in agriculture, quite a few in trade and even fewer in tourism. There is handicraft, but not much other work in Tanzania as the country is not industrialized - apart from some mines in Arusha and the area around Lake Victoria.

Strong believers
There are many beliefs in Tanzania and people tend to be strong believers once they deciced. Christian Missionaries started their work in the 19th century, now Christians make more then 30% of the population. Islam has been around ever since the first Arab traders arrived here in the 12th century, today more then 40% of the country is Muslim. There are also Hindus, non-believers and a lot traditional of beliefs, infact every tribe has its own rituals of worship.
