Kigoma - Gombe Stream - Mahale Mountains
Itinerary: 9 days chimpanzees tracking in South-Western Tanzania

Day 1: Kigoma
We'll arrive in Kigoma by safari vehicle, train or eventually by flight. There is an airport shuttle service to our accomodation. We'll have time to make ourselves familar with the surroudings. Dinner will be served at our accomodation. 

Day 2: Gombe Stream NP
After an early breakfast we depart to Gombe National Park by boat. It's a very exciting and beautiful trip. In the evening we go an extended game drive. We'll return rather late for dinner to our accomodation. 

Day 3: Gombe Stream NP - Waterfalls
Right after breakfast we go on a full-day game view at the park. We climb to the waterfalls and return for lunch to our accomodation. We spend the afternoon game viewing at the park, we'll stay for sunset and beyond. Dinner will be served at our accomodation. 

Day 4: Gombe Stream NP - Jane's Peak
We spend the morning game viewing at the park and climb to the Jane's peak there. It's dedicated to Jane Goodall, the famous scientist who founded the longest running wildlife observation programm on the planet in the 1960s. The chimpanzee study is now in its sixth generation. We have lunch at the park, at Sang'ara restaurant. The afternoon is dedicated to relaxation, we'll have dinner at our accomodation. 

Day 5: Mahale Mountains National Park
After an early breakfast we're already on our way to the Mahale Mountains. The national park is bordering Lake Tanganyika, so we enter the park by boat. The Mahale Mountains are home to some of Africa's last remaining wild chimpanzees: a population of roughly eight hundrerd, habituated to human visitors by a Japanese research project founded in the 1960s. We will stay in the park overnight at a campsite. We'll have dinner and a bonfire in the evening. 

Day 6: Mahale Mountains - Lake Tanganyika
We have breakfast at the campsite in the park and then a full day game view. It's a wonderul area with a white sandy beach lapped to the transparent water of lake Tanganyika. We'll be around until late evening and then have dinner and bonfire at the campsite. 

Day 7: Mahale Mountains - Chimpanzees
Right after breakfast we go for game viewing at the park and then visit the research center for chimpanzees. We climb the waterfalls at the park. Mahale mountain slopes harbour a diverse forest flora and fauna, including troops of Red Colobus monkeys and population of eight hundred chimpanzees - the subject of research here. Dinner and overnight will be next to the bonfire at the campsite. 

Day 8: Mahale Mountains - Boat trip
After breakfast at the campsite we view the Mahale mountain chain by boat. It's a very scenic trip. In the afternoon we will head to our accomodation for tonight, we will have dinner there. 

Day 9: Departure
After breakfast it's time to say good bye. We get ready for the transfer to Kigoma airport and take a flight to Arusha or Dar es Salaam. 

You will have seen southern Tanzania's wildlife at its best and return home with many precious memories and photos.
