 PEMBA ISLAND

Only a few travelers find their way to Pemba.
The island is remote and not that easy to reach. People are very friendly and there are fantastic beaches to discover, but Al Khudra, as the Arabs called it, 'the Green Island' is mostly a place for agriculture: It's home to millions of clove trees - you will smell cloves and other spices everywhere.
Divers get enthusiastic
when they talk about Pemba because according to many of them the island's coral reefs are
the best in the world. The reefs and channels also make for one of East Africa's highest rated game fishing.
Towns and sites
Pemba's main town is Chake Chake on the west coast, close to the island's earliest settlement - the ruins of Ras Mkumbu where the Shirazis settled about 1200 AD. Places to eat and stay can be found in Chake Chake as well as in Mkoani amd Wete.
Getting there
Pemba Island is located 45 km north of Zanzibar. There are ferries from Zanzibar and Dar es Salaam. You can reach Pemba by air from Zanzibar or by the occasional dhow from Tanga.
Please contact us if you are interested in exploring Pemba Island and its coral reefs.
