'Active' Mt Climbing & Hiking itineraries

Tanzania is an exciting country for mountain freaks. Above all there is magic Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest peak. And there is Olonyo Lenai, meaning Home of God, the holy mountain of the Maasai and a spectacular climb. Mountain enthusiasts will definitely consider trekking Mount Meru as well, it's an amazing experience.

Mt Kilimanjaro 5,895m
The adventure of a lifetime. Paced well and supported by a crew of guides, porters and a cook, you will make it to the snowy peak. We trek different routes with different types of people. Check out our Kili trekking tours.

The Machame Route is the most scenic route up Kilimanjaro, passing through lush rain forest, river valleys and views of Kibo Peak. This route is the most popular and it gives the climbers the opportunity to "walk high and sleep low" which is very good for acclimatization.
Kilimanjaro, Machame Route in 8days/7nights

The Machame Route can be also done in 7days/6nights. This program which skips one important day for acclimatization is suitable for those who have experience in mountain trekking, are very fit and have recently been acclimatized to high altitudes.
Kilimanjaro, Machame Route in 7days/6nights

The Marangu Route is an easier route with more comforts. This is the only route on Kili where you can overnight in huts with comfortable beds at the camps. Bathrooms and running water are available at the two lower huts. There is lower vegetation along this route that turns into an alpine desert that resembles a lunar landscape. From Horombo Hut you can enjoy breathtaking views of Kibo Peak.
Kilimanjaro, Marangu Route in 6days/5nights

The Umbwe Route is much steeper, ascending directly to the summit - very enjoyable if you can resist the temptation to gain altitude too quickly. This route is good for those who have climbing experience and enjoy doing things a little rough. The reward will be big as you have the opportunity to get close to the beautiful and fascinating glaciers of Kilimanjaro and to be able to visit the ash pit.
Kilimanjaro, Umbwe Route in 7days/6nights

The Rongai is the easiest route and very scenic. The ascent starts from the northeastern side of the mountain along the borders of Tanzania and Kenya and descends from the southern side along the Marangu route. So on this route you get to see both sides of the mountain. On your way you will enter pine forests and pass through fields which boast beautiful views and a variety of wildlife such as Colobus monkey.
Kilimanjaro, Rongai Route in 7days/6nights

The Lemosho Route is the longest route and less used, perfect for those seeking a slower climb with stunning surroundings. On your way up you will pass through a green rainforest, the rim of a volcano with views of Kibo peak, rocky trails, a valley with Giant Lobellia and Scenecio and views of Mawenzi and Uhuru peaks.
Kilimanjaro, Lemosho Route in 9days/8nights

Mt Meru 4,556m
Mount Meru is a spectacular mountain, often neglected in favour of its famous neighbour to the east. The trek is an unforgettable experience all the way from the monkeys in the foothills of the extinct volcano up to the perfectly formed crater.

The Momela Route is a unique four days trek which includes walking through grassland and dense highland forest before ending in a dramatic ridge walk up to the summit. The geology of the summit consists of a perfectly formed crater with sharp cliffs and an ash cone which creates a secondary inverted peak. The summit can be reached through a narrow, barren ridge and the view of the ash cone and the cliff face leading to the summit is breathtaking.
